A few questions about buying...

Unread post by proudestmonkey41 » Sun Sep 11, 2005 5:14 pm

hey, im still some-what of a begginner, and looking to buy a new Acoustic. my last one is a cheapy mansfield i bought off a friend of mine for only $100 including case.. but im looking to upgrade. this is going to be my first real guitar purchase. obviously the taylor 714 or 914 is my dream, but right now my budget is limited to about $800-900. can anyone give some suggestions as to the best quality make/year i should be looking for in a used guitar around that price range? thanks!

Takamine makes a very nice guitar, especially for the money. I'd recommend this one.

What kind of sound are you looking for? I'm a big fan of the Martin DM for an upgrade guitar before getting something really nice. The DM is a laminated martin but just go play one and you'll know what i mean when i say it kicks ass... Try that out, it would be in your price range.... And to be honest, i own a taylor 714ce and i played my friends DM and i thought it sounded better on the bass side but not quite as good on the higher end, but my 714 still feals better and plays better imo. Try it out man...

yea i think a martin is probably what im going to try and find. im hoping i can find a nice one that might have a little scratch in it to drop the price or something.. but from ones ive tried in the past a martin is the sound id like to have.

You can get a Martin D-15 Special edition with Rosewood back and sides and a spruce top for around $700-$800

I can vouch for the sound.

I have never played one of those D-15 specials before, does it sound as good as the DM? If so then that would be great because it is solid wood all around compared to the laminated on the DM.

It sounds almost just like a D-28 it just doesn't have the visual appointments. Way better then a DM
