Unread post by puckmaggi » Wed Aug 24, 2005 5:35 pm

i dont know which one to choose and its driving me insane hoh, just thought id let you know for the hell of it! (and no this is not martin vs taylor cause i like em both the same) i have a 414ce and its not very loud and the sustain isn't very good either, even after adding FWI saddle and bridge pins.. so im buying a dread...

First off a sweet taylor 710 w/ brazilian.

and second a very nice hd-28v (by the way srslots hows your new one treatin you)

have you guys played brazilian rosewood though? i've played a 69 d-28 with brazilian (well no shit its going to sound better than the taylor) but the brazilian wood was what really made it sound good. still you cant even compare a 69 d-28 with a 97 taylor but my point is brazilian rocks

i was at my buddies house the other day mentioned guitars, his dad brought me up in his room, dug around his closet for a little while and pulled out a MINT 1957 martin with all brazillian rosewood, for being almost 50 years old with 20 year old strings on it the tone was INSANEEEEE

I personally abhor the 'feel' of martins. they just dont sit right with me as far as tone, comfort and playbility.

id put good money on that Taylor being a scam. email the guy and tell him you will pay him cash, in person, that you are in his area. Lets see what he says then.

First off, i did not know Taylor made 7 series with any brazilian, second, thats wayyyyy too cheap if they did.

They did make a brazilian 7 series with there 25th anniversaries, not sure about this 1997, and for the price being to low a 810-B went for 2000 on ebay last week. And for the scam i dont think so because he has 100+ positive feedback 100%, but i emailed him and see what he says. but i think im going to end up with the hd-28v because i love em

case in point........

what sound are you going for? which guitar have you played and you liked more?

otherwise, everyone here who is a fan of martins will tell you to get the HD-28v and the Taylor fans are going to say to ge the 714.

Which did you like more?

It's a 710, not 714. If it were a normal 710 vs. the HD-28V, i'd say the HD-28V, but i'd never pass up a chance to own a guitar with brazillian rosewood. Just my 2 cents.

Don't think that because a guitar has brazilian rosewood that it is tonally superior to any other wood. The highly figured brazilian that you see on these newer guitars is in fact stumpwood. Yeah it looks gorgeous but they didn't use the stuff much pre-70s because it wasnt as good as the quatersawn brazilian that you see on most vintage martins.
