what are the differences between strats and teles?

you might want to be more specific.

the most general answer I can give is that strats give a real blues sound yet versatile. A tele has a real twangy sound, not as versatile, they are both suprisingly very different.

You really have to play one of each through the same amp to tell. I think strats are much more versatile. Teles have a unique sound that I like too.

so i should get a strat?

since i dont know very much about electric guitars i cant really be more specific in my questions about them. perhaps if i asked what each one is best suited for, or which one has more pluses than minuses...i dont know what to ask.

Well, either can be suited for anything, all you have to do is change the pickups. I would go with the strat though, no real reason other then I like the look of it better.
