mic help

Unread post by dmbS0MuchT0Say » Wed Aug 10, 2005 10:50 am

Im looking to buy a mic on this site

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=rec/search?c=4624

My price range is less than $100. Im kind of leaning towards the AKG D 9000 or the Shure SM57 but I have no idea what mics are good so if anyone could give me advice on what mic to get that would be great. Thanks.

if you ask me, mics are really hit and miss. a good condensor mic is the best for recording but it's not very strong and can't take as much abuse. i would just read the reviews if i were you, that would be your best bet. also, if you made this thread in the Musicians Gear forum, more people will probably respond. hope i helped

what will you be using it for?

the shure sm57 is essentially the industry standard for recording instruments
and the sm58 is great for vocals

I will be using the mic mostly for recording guitar but I also want to use vocals with it. Its going to stay in my room so I dont need it to be heavy duty. Im kind of going towards the Shure SM57 but if anyone knows any good mics for recording instruments that are under $100 let me know. Thanks.

well i own a shure KSM27 and i love it. Just keep in mind that when you buy a mixer that it can make or break any mic. You can get a great mic and buy a crappy mixer and you will get alot of fuzz. You might already know that, just a heads up, that's something i had to do alot of research into... As for a shure, i have not tested that model but i love mine and i'm sure that one is no exception...

can u get condensers for less than a $100 though? I was under the impression that they are of better quality, so I wouldn't think they could get around 100... i think u could get a nice dynamic mic for that price though
