Looking to buy a Tube Amp
I've been playing a lot more electric guitar lately, and now I'm having that distinct urge that I need to go out and drop some money on some new gear. Yeah, you know the feeling.
I played my buddy's Peavey amp, which is a tube amp, and I was blown away by the sound quality. It was awesome. I want one. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of amp I should get? I'm looking to spend about $800. Thanks

my friend got a fender tube amp, and while obviously having great clean, he had to buy a distortion pedal if he wanted good tone from that. he bought a Visual Sound Jekyll/Hyde and that thing sounds amazing... im considering buying one for more versatility.jeffro wrote:I got my used Fender Twin Reverb amp for about $800. Definitely check out fender tube amps, I love em.

First off what kind of amp you get really depends on what kind of guitar you have.
But, overall, I would highly recommend fender tube amps. The most versitile fender tube would be the blues junior, hot rod deluxe, or blues deville. They sound awsome clean, and great dirty. I would recommend a hot rod deluxe, and then switch the stock speaker to a jensen or celestion speaker. I personally have owned 3 blues juniors, because they are all I need. A hot rod deluxe is a little more virsitile because it has a f/x loop and 2 channels, and it is loud enough to blow the doors down (40 watts). Even the blues junior will make your ears bleed at 15 watts.
But, it all depends on your guitar and what type of music u play

i agree about the loudness... fender has a thing with making amps loud. i also agree with the jensen/celestion selection. my Traynor has a couple 70/80s which are great, but im gonna replace those with higher end celestions sooner or later.MrMister612 wrote:First off what kind of amp you get really depends on what kind of guitar you have.

i eliminated the blues jr when i was looking for an amp because of the 1 channel thing. its not a gig amp. the hot rod deluxe is a nice sounding amp though.

Thanks alot for the suggestions guys.
My electric guitar is a washburn, maverick series BT8.

(that picture is the same colour an everything)
It's nothing special, but I like it. It's got a nice, quick neck, which I really like. And the tone isn't too bad either.
As for the music that I'm playing, it's a pretty wide variety. Lately though, I'd like to go for sort of an indie rock, distortion but not too much distortion sound. I don't want a really heavy sound, but I would love to be able to get a sweet rock sound.

Fender Deluxe Reverb...hands down. Versatile as heck...it can play loud, it can be a little quiet...has a slight tendency towards the bright side but just a sweet little amp...single 12" and 18 watts I believe...

i'd really reccomend the fender hot rod deluxe.
Its an amazing amp all around. It stays clean really loud, and has an amazingly thick tone to it. Just remember 40 watts solid state isn't comparable to 40 watts tube. There is a lot more power in tube wattage. 40 watts tube is comparable to 160 watts solid state.

like everyone says, get a fender tube amp
i have a Fender Hot Rod Deville. not deluxe. Its 60 watts.
For $800, you essentially have your choice of 4 - 10in speakers, or 2 - 12in speakers for around $750. the 2x12 will give you a heavier sound.
i have the 2x12 and its friggin sweet. i dont play as much electric anymore, but trust me you get everything you want from it. itll blow your neighborhood away at 4, and still sound amazing in your room at 2, yet it goes to 10.
clean sound - the closest thing ive heard to hendrix with my Strat.
Dirty - pure rock and roll
i use a tube screamer with it, and it is BALLS OUT. just a thick heavy yet warm sound like a mix between jimmy page and SRV.
check it out, if youre gonna spend the money, get the deville, not the deluxe.
