drum kit mic choices
my buddy is looking at getting his drum mic'd and right now were looking at getting:
4 SM57's (snare, three toms)
1 Beta 52 (bass)
1 Pair MXL 993 Condensers (cymbals)
does anyone on here have any experience with this, i know there arent many drummers, but help if you can.. and i know those probably arent the greatest condensers, but with the bill for everything being well over a $1000, they should do

Yes, Im going to assume its is a balanced though, so basically a hihat and crash on the left of the bass, a crsh and a ride on the right of the basedrum. I will also assume that it he has to two rack toms and only one floor tom (please correct any of this if it wrong). If we are going for the lowest number of mics, I would say share a mic between the crsh on the left and the hihat, share a mic between the crash and the ride. Then share a mic between the two rack toms with the floor tom gettting its own mic. Snare and kick get there own. But please correct my assumption of the set up so I actually know what you are dealing with.crash_in_to_me wrote:ok, so just put one mic between every 2 toms?
and that is a pair of condensers... does he need anything for the hihat?
