Looking to buy a Taylor

Unread post by onid41 » Sun Jul 17, 2005 10:26 pm

To owners and knowledged people about Taylor Guitars:

Im sick and tired of my shitty seagull so I'm looking to buy a new guitar and my aim is toward a Taylor. Played a couple at the store and such and i've always liked Taylors, the sound, the feel, it just seems like a great guitar.

By the end of the summer im probably gonna have $2000 or so, and could probably get more from the parents. I kinda want a x12ce versions of the 400, 600, or 700 series, wishing for a 700 :D

But i have no idea the differences on like sound and quality of the guitars as the series goes up. What would be the pluses/minuses of getting say a 400 compared to a 700 series one?

Also i want the x12ce ones (Grand Concert's) oppose to the x14ce ones. Opinions on that also would be great.

Im kinda leaning towards getting a 312ce cause i know i'll have enough money to buy it.

Any more thoughts would be greatly appreciated, and i ask that nDMB clowns keep it on topic. Thanks a bunch.

Hmm I believe your ideal guitar would be a Martin HD-28.

J/k. Go for the 712ce, don't settle for less than what you really want.

i say go with what is reasonable. I think most people on these boards have bought guitars way out of their playing range.

I also suggest playing all of them and chose for yourself. knowing the specs and technical differences that you wouldnt notice form playing is a good idea, but you might just barely like that 712 more than the 412.

If I had a guitar the was "in my playing range" I would be playing a shoe box with rubber bands

That being said; I have a Taylor 314ce Koa that I loved...until one day I made a total impulse buy, and picked up a Martin D-15. Now all I play is the Martin, the Taylor rarely makes it out of the case and it will probably get traded soon for an 000-28 or D28.

My Taylor is a great guitar, but I prefer the Martins.

just my 2 cents

Make sure that the x12 series is a good fit for your playing style. They are typically more of a fingerstyle players guitar and don't handle the strumming as well as bigger guitars well.

Also, I echo others sentiments to check out some other guitars as well to make sure the Taylor is the sound your after, there'd be nothing worse than dropping 2k on a guitar to find out 6 months later that you prefer a different tone.
