recording programs

I am looking for a free downloadable program to use with my m-audio firewire solo until i am able to purchase pro tools. Where can i find something decent?

i don't believe protools will work with anything other than digidesign equipment, unless they've changed their policy.

Aha! Yeah, Avid (parent company of Digidesign) bought M-Audio a while back, so that doesn't surprise me at all. Thanks for the link.

Apple has something called Garage Band. I've never used it, but it looks pretty sweet.

Yeah, I was kind of assuming he was on Windows. If he has a Mac, then Garageband no question.

audacity is sucking up for me and it wont export to .mp3 if deleted and reinstaleld audacity and delted and redownloading the lame file.

Cool Edit Pro, but you'd have to get that illegally, which we can't talk about here ;)

i've got a program called wavepad that i found that works good enough for me, except now my mic is broken so i cant record anything

i think they got bought out anyway. the new program is called adobe audition. same thing w/ some better features. it's what i use and it's freaking amazing. but it's not free.
