Switching from Lights to Meds.

Unread post by bighuk » Mon Jul 04, 2005 1:28 pm

Gonna try out some Medium ej17's for a change and was wondering if i need to have my nut filed or anything for the additional size. You guys just string your guitars up with med's or did it take some modification? I'm using a Martin DR that i've always played ej16 lights on.

I just remembered that the truss rod will prolly need some adjustment because of the additional pressure. Correct?

I wouldnt think youd have to adjust your guitar just from going from lights to mediums. But thats just a guess.

Yeah the place i bought it from is a martin dealer and service agent. I've had it setup and worked on by the guy there and it's good, I was just wondering if I could just pick some up on the way home and string it up when i get home. But i'm beginning to think that it has to be completely resetup. I mean more pressure means that more than likely i'm going to see a higher action that needed which will make the guitar feel outa whack, and the nut might pinch the strings too tightly so I'll prolly just take it to him, he's done alota good work on my guitar.

with those, is it the EAD or GBE that are lighter?

i have been playing the mediums, but the GBE strings are too heavy, i dont like it.
