hey. I have had my alvarez acoustic electric for awhile and I was wondering what kind of wires/technology would I need to plug my guitar into either my computer or a switcher that goes to my computer so I can play and record on my computer.
I know that was one big long sentence but I'll summarize. I'm looking for a cord or a device that you plug your guitar into so you can record what you are playing onto your computer.
There. hehe. So would I need an amp for this or is it possible to just go guitar to your computer and record? Also what kind of cord/device and what are the best brands to go by?
thanks

There are really many things you can do. You could plug a 1/4" chord into the guitar and get an 1/8" adapter to plug it straight into the computer. You could run it through an amp first and put an 1/8" adapter on the chord coming out of the amp into the computer. Or what I do is plug my guitar into a mixing board and plug the mixing board into the computer the same way.
Normally there are two audio inputs on a computer. Mic and Line In. Either one should work but I find that Line In works best. Just personal preference.
