help learning the violin
i just orders a stagg electric violin.
ive never played but my guitar playing aint to bad. i picked up my mums chello and was playing some tunes 10 min later...and bojd is sometimes off but gets away with it.
the thing is it doesnt have threts, i was thinking. if i put a dot of paint etc where each new note is (and made vertual frets) to learn by, would (so long as i always tuned it the same.) that work like a guitar or do the strings strech and warp overtime causing the differnt notes to move location slightly
thanks in advance for any pointers or suggestion......or if anone knows where to get free info or lessions on line etc
ps sorry for my spelling, had beer

i don't play violin, but i do know that using something to mark where a note is is usually frowned upon and considered a crutch that will lead to poor technique. learning the proper way will teach you more and develop your ear
it takes a LOT of patience to learn how to play instruments in the violin family. its not like guitar where you can learn pretty quickly. it will take discipline and patience to get far, and a lot of time and practice.
i don't mean to discourage, just letting you know that you've just bought a difficult instrument to play well

yeh with the violin you also need to focus on having correct placement and doing that wiggly finger shit (vibrato?) to sound decent, frets are a big advantage when it comes to learning an instrument quickly

But ya. I knew this girl in High School she had been playing violin for like 10 years. She is disgustingly good and can play any DMB song if Boyd has been in it. It was awesome. I told her I had started to play guitar a few months ago (this was awhile ago almost been playing a year now) and she was telling me that when she was little and shit (she's 18 now so she started at like 8) and just told me like she had like 3 different teachers and like did it in school and just practiced the shit out of the violin.
But it pays off. 10 years later I think she could honestly be like in a symphony one day.
PS: She's really good at that wiggly finger shit

i think i will try the tape method for the first week or so but get rid of them as soon as is possible, so as not to learn that way... i really just want to play a few lines over my recordings, memorise the BTCS crush solo, and pizz out two step and american baby intros
does anyone know weather the next note up is the same distance on every string (ie the same marker for each sting, excatly like a thret, or does it vairy with each string it)

1) fret
2) I like your AV
3) no, notes aren't the same space apart, just like they aren't on a guitar. Either take a few lessons or sound it out yourself.
Edit: I see what your saying I misread it. The tape wont be in a set distance down the neck (voilin?) but they will be for each string if that makes sense.
