Beater Guitar

Unread post by Mjazk26 » Mon Jun 06, 2005 11:03 am

I sold my Yairi on Ebay to help pay for my engagement / wedding. I need a beater guitar until next year when I buy either a 610ce or 810ce after the wedding.

Any suggeations on a decent guitar < $200

Look at some low end Tak's or Alvarez's with a solid top. You probably wont get a new one for under 200 but you could find a used one.

Or try some new washburn's if you must go new.......or go ultra cheap with Jasmine's by takamine, they play decent.

What I would do is just go to a GC or something and tell someone that you want an acoustic for under 200. Guitars in that price range are often very dynamic in quality, so I would highly suggest playing many different models and different guitars of the same model before you buy one.

Alvarez RD20S. I was recently trying to help this girl i'm teaching to play get into acoustic and found a used one in PERFECT condition at a local store for 159$. It literally looked like it had never been played. It sounds amazing and once the action is set and plays so nicely. It's tone rivals my martin. I'm actually going to buy one to take to parties and class. In my opinion it is by far the best guitar for the money. It's got a solid mahogany back and sides and the top is solid spruce, I believe the neck is even solid mahogany.

cheers,
curtis j

That's the guitar I have now, until I get my new one. It was like 120-150 and i put some new strings on there and it plays wonderfully. I will probably use it for some alternate tunings after i get a new one.

i 100% completely agree.

I own one, plays better than a $200 ibanez (not saying much I know but still)
doesn't sound bad at all with some nice strings on it, sure it goes out of tune a little more often that nicer guitars but in that price range you definately can't beat it

i have the Rogue that is linked in a previous reply and it sounds really nice. not bad for a "real" beater. cant go wrong with it.
I also have an Alvarez RD8 which i havent been playing to much since i bought the Rogue. But i love the Alvarez as well.
