Koa vs. Nato?
Koa vs. Nato?
I was playing a Takamine at Guitar Center today (EG544SC, apparently it's only for sale at GC stores) and noticed it had Koa wood on the sides and back I believe. Was just browsing through some of their other models online and notice they have Nato on the back/sides. Anyone know what the difference in quality or anything else is between the 2?

"Forget about what you are escaping from," he said, quoting an old maxim of Kornblum's. "Reserve your anxiety for what you are escaping to."

Is nato and mahogany very similar? I've read that since the supply of Honduras and Brazilian mahogany is becoming more and more scarce, nato and west african mahogany are being selected because there is a greater abundance of it.
Its like... getting two birds stoned at once. (Ricky-trailor park boys).

nato isnt a real wood. there is no nato tree. its synthetic. tone = not good.

Does anyone verify their information before they post it. Nato is a real wood here is some information regariding it.shane wrote:*head explodes*Ryeguy wrote:Is nato and mahogany very similar? Mora excelsa and Mora gonggrijpii Mora
Family: Leguminosae
Other Common Names: Nato, Nato rojo (Colombia), Mora de Guayana (Venezuela), Morabukea, Mora (Guyana), Mora, Moraboekea (Surinam), Pracuuba (Brazil).
It gets a bad rap because typically it is used on cheaper guitars, not necessarily because it's a shit wood but because it is much easier to grow. It also grows considerably faster than other woods which means you don't have to wait as long to harvest it.
having wood in it does not make it wood... i made the "mistake"hcole wrote:Does anyone verify their information before they post it.
