Anyone provide some fb on the Taylor 110e?

Unread post by fliggil » Mon May 16, 2005 8:57 pm

I was just about ready to decide between a Takamine G and a Martin DCX1E (both acoustic/electrics), when the sales guy told me to check out the Taylor 110e which is similar priced ($600-700 range). Of course, they don't have one in stock, and they'd only be able to bring one in if I order it. Before I go on a hunt to track one down to test out, I was just curious if anyone had played this before and what they think. I'm not making a purchase based on someone's review, I know to go and test it out on my own, but if no one thinks it's worth the money, I'm not gonna waste my time trying to track one down.

what specific takamine model? (unless there's a G model i've never heard of). In that price range, I would go with the Tak, as neither of those bottom-end Martins perform as well as they should as compared to other guitars of their price range (like Taks, Alvarezs, lower-end Larivees). if you can find a Martin D-15 in that price range, take a look at that too.

I would 100% not recommend the 110. Its a POS guitar with Taylors name on it IMO. As everyone else said, go with the Tak.

If you happen to stumble into a Taylor 110 check it out, but I wouldn't break my neck trying to get my hands on one.

Well the 110e sounds a lot better than other guitars. But if you plan on gigging you would have to buy a preamp because of the crappy pickup it has.

I know two people that have the G-series. Not bad.

I was pretty hooked on the Taka, I liked the feel of the Martin but the sound just didn't have the same bright crispness. There's like 4 or 5 G-Series Taka models in the 450-600 range so I'm just gonna go through each one and find which feels the best. Thanks for the advice-

Takamine

Definitely go with the Takamine. I have a F Series and have never been disappointed, plus it keeps opening up and sounding better everyday even though I've had it for two years.

On top of that, the Taylor sucks comparitively...

I disagree. Dispite the fact that it is a low-end taylor the G-series doesnt beat it in sound at all. I know two people that have them and they are good guitars but when it comes to sound the Taylor is better. But for performing and recording the G-series would be better since it has a better pickup.

i played a 110e at guitar center the other day, and it felt like a cheap guitar. It felt really light, and the wood felt weak and thin. I personally didn't like the sound from it at all. i played a 314ce and a 314 and both sounded much better.

Well no shit sherlock. If you put a 314 and a 110 together there is going to be a big difference. But compared to other cheap guitars and low end martins the 110e is much better.
