My martin HD 28 sounds great but my hands are small-- advice

Unread post by martinman » Thu Feb 17, 2005 12:48 am

I can play different songs, but when it comes to playing something like "Neon" for example a John Mayer song... I can't because of my hands being to small. Can anyone reccomend some acoustic guitars preferrably by Martin that have a small neck which would allow me to play everything I want?

thanks!

i have very small hands myself so that was a big factor for me in picking out guitars. i have a dcx1e and that has one of the smallest necks ive seen from a martin. but i hear to stay away from laminates. but i know washburns have some pretty small necks. well the lower end ones that is. goodluck. btw neon is playable even with small hands. just dont use your thumbs.

do you mean width of the fretboard or depth of the neck?

im not positive, but im pretty sure all martins use a uniform fretboard width... and if its off its only by a smidgen...

if you look at other guitar companies, (martins very old fashioned and uniform) you'll see they have many different neck shapes, big and small. play a bunch and find one you're comfy with.

do stay away from laminates.

Small hands are made to be a much bigger deal than they are but if your hands are abnormally small than you might consider getting a guitar with a shorter scale length. Taylor just introduced a short scale limited edition:
