Acoustic amps
Acoustic amps
Anybody know much about acoustic amplifiers - whats good and what the prices are? At the moment I have a small peavey as well as a yahamaha T-100 all tube head hooked up to a 4X12 half stack. In both cases my acoustic sounds a bit schrill when i plug in.

The best acoustic amp I have heard is the Ultrasound AG50DS2 (50 watts), very clear and true to the acoustic guitar sound. It costs around $450. They also have the AG30 (smaller 30 watt version) for around $170. I also like the Behringer Ultracoustic ACX1000. It's a 60 watt unit with a lot of effects and it sounds good. It's also about twice the size and weight of the Ultrasound. It costs about $300.

Does a 30 watt and a 50 watt amp have an extreme difference? Is it mainly the amount of volume you can get out of it or are there more differences.Ricky the Pilot wrote:The best acoustic amp I have heard is the Ultrasound AG50DS2 (50 watts), very clear and true to the acoustic guitar sound. If it's not that much difference then it may be a better idea to save 280 and get the 30....I don't know though....that's why I ask...

It's not just the amperage that's different. The AG50DS2 also has a seperate mic channel and 16 digital effects. The AG30 does not. The AG50, which is the same amperage as the AG50DS2, does not have any digital effects either. I don't know the price, but I would assume it's around $300. You can learn more about the Ultrasound Amps on their web site.

Yeah, the ultrasounds are just a little mind blowing in how good they are. I am the proud owner of a DS2 100, and whoa, it blows the pricier California Blonde out of the water. It's not even worth debating which is better. You are simply not going to find a better value in acoustic amps than Ultrasound. Many of the greatest guitarists out there think that Ultrasounds are more than just the best bang for your buck amp. Many think they're the best period. I'd have to agree. Check out this link for some rediculously sweet pricing on the Ultrasounds. It's the cheapest you'll find them anywhere, and shipping is free.
