Working on a budget novice recording studio for my computer So far, I've ordered a B1 Studioprojects all-purpose mic and an Audiophile 2496 soundcard, both to the great help of other forums and friends. Now, I'm on to the mixing board. What I had inmind was a Behringer UB802 8 input- it's $50, great price, and it seems from reviews that it's a good buy for the price and quality. Phantom power for mics and 2 working preamps built in for them to go through. Zzounds entry is here:

Any experiences or tips to share? I'd also like to know how exactly I should go about wiring this to the soundcard

great mixer im planning on getting one, my friend has one, 12 fucking inputs... cant ask for more than that can ya?
i own the 1202, and its decent, but if you plan on using it for live shows any time soon, get a bigger one, this one has only 4 mic ins
but for homerecording, i dont think it can be beat

the simplest, cheapest and most inexpensive models are made by Behringer, called the "Eurorack"...
type that in at Musicians Friends and you can read all the details...

exactly, hes setting up a studio, and weve gotten some really good recordings off that little thing and been able to do some nice work in a laptop on some cheap software.

Alright.. thanks for all the help. The setup is basically just for getting started, I'll upgrade as time goes on. The Yamaha was one that looked good as well... does it have phantom power? If the preamps are good, it might be worth it. For inputs.. I'm just planning this for home recording, guitar, mic, bass.. misc instruments with the mic. Should I really be looking at 12 inputs, or will 8 cut it?

well it depends, the 8 input one has only 2 mic inputs i think, so if you want to record all that at the same time, you wont be able to
and the 12 input one has 4 mic ins, do it depeneds what you want to do

yeh, just make sure you have enough mic inputs for whatever you're trying to record.
