silly string question for the wise ones
silly string question for the wise ones
i play lights. ive never played anything else. should i try a bigger string? does it change the overall sound that mucho? can you just put on a different size set or do you have to make adjustments to things? thats 3 questions in a row, im clueless.
interesting aside: i once played a whole year w/ the same strings (just forgot about changin them).

i used to play heavies.. they were somewhat hard to use, but that only makes you better when you go back to lights. it makes the sound a little deeper and it has more sustain, i think. i dont know about your 3rd question.ryopan wrote:i play lights. ive never played anything else. should i try a bigger string? does it change the overall sound that mucho? can you just put on a different size set or do you have to make adjustments to things? thats 3 questions in a row, im clueless.

I use Med/light(12's), but ive tried Med/heavy(13's) and lights(11's). You dont really improve your overall sound all that much. The really heavy strings ar mainly intended for hardcore jazz players, so I dont you want those. Lights too weak and sometimes make you move slower. I dont know why but they do
12s in my opinion are best

my guitar came with lights on it but things got muddy under hard strumming so I switched to mediums (13 to 56) and have been using them ever since (2 years or more) I never broke a string yet and I am hard as hell on the strings, and they have more depth to the tone than the lights especially with hard strumming. good for unplugged party jammin'waffle_house_jam wrote:bluegrass strings are awesome, but in my experience they dont sound very good after a few weeks of hard playing.
i play mediums, they are a good balance and make sure you keep up your finger strength (and dont break strings as much)

good, and you?

It all depends on the actual guitar and action.
I learned on some really tough med Martins that were on my dads Fender with action that stood 3 inches of the neck...that built up my finger strength...now I only use Elixir lights when it comes to my Chet Atkins SST.
It all depends on the guitar type and the particulars of the specs.
Heavier strings will give you a more full sound, but I like the way you can manipulate the strings on my SST...
It's alla matter of preference...

i only play mediums. they REALLY bring about the real sound of the guitar... lights reverberate less which means less sound... scientificly mediums are the way to go
