Which is Better, Martin or Taylor?
Dave plays both and also some others, which in your opinion is better? I'm looking to upgrade and spend $500-$1000. Let me know what you think. Thanks

save up. dont spend $1000 on a martin or a taylor. if youre gonna get one, get a good one.

Is there any reason other than Dave playing them that you've locked yourself into these two brands? While they are both phenomenal guitars (I own a Martin currently and will own a Taylor with my next purchase), you might want to look at other guitars (such as Alvarez and Takamine). I recommend that you get to your nearest guitar store that has a good acoustic selection and sit down and play every guitar you can get your hands on that is in your price range. If the tone and looks appeal to you, get it! People have much different opinions on everything, especially guitars - what sounds good to me will not necessarily sound good to you. It's your purchase - make the choice yourself so you can be sure you'll be happy for years to comeDMB_DO wrote:Dave plays both and also some others, which in your opinion is better? if were talking acoustic electric, taylors pickup system beats even fisman.
trippin,
I own an Alvarez right now, I bought it 6 years ago I've played both martins and taylors and i really like them both. I feel that the martins have a deeper bassy sound whereas the taylors have a fuller louder sound. I like both equally, I just didn't know if there is a difference between the two at that price range. Thanks for your reply, I'd appreciate any further advice.

Ah. Well, then you've already done my advice and hopefully you have an opinion on which of the two you like better (which models are you looking at in particular, by the way?). I think you'd be happy with either. I personally would get a Martin before I got a Taylor because I prefer the Martin tone in most circumstances, although my next guitar will probably be a Taylor just for good measure.DMB_DO wrote:trippin,

Absolutely. Most people on here rave about them like they're incredible, and there are just much better pickups on the market for less cost.shane wrote:theres much better than fishman...

taylor = michael jackson
martin = that guy that cut his own arm off because it was stuck between a rock in the desert or that guy that got his arm bitten off by a shark and then went and got his arm back from the shark, and probably hit the shark with his arm
B+P by offer only...thank you

"Yeah. I go into the sea sometimes just to fuck around with the sharks. I have this thing called the Shark Rocket and I just shoot it at them. It really annoys them. And then I just wade there in the water and they come at me but I'm really good at eluding them. I know of this hip move - it's something porpoises do and then I pretend I have a bottleneck and I stab them in the gills. And it really is effective."

haha
the reason i say taylors system is better is...
its a mutli pickup design that gives the sound of a miced gutiar with pickups...
if i remember all these correctly, theres a pickup under the bridge, under the last fret, and about 3 inches down, and 2 inches over from the bridge, to pick up the entire guitar and not just the strings.

but in general, taylor has less balls than chosta and wormann combined on the low end
and i'm sure it helps when you play with those 11's too

again - Breedlove. AMAZING.
theres no preamp in the guitar though. you have to EQ it outside of the guitar. it only has 2 knobs (on the top of the sound hole. no holes made in the guitar. one knob is volume. the other moves between mic and transducer.
the ES system is only transducer i believe.
