MY NEW ALVAREZ!!

Unread post by Reckless » Fri Oct 22, 2004 5:14 pm

So I finally nutted up and bought it. Alvarez AD80S. Good Lord it's amazing. To me, it has a deep sound comparable to a Martin and it plays like a Taylor. Alvarez fucking rocks.
Oh yeah, it's beautiful too:

I played that one and almost bought it. I like the pd-80sc also. Nice choice. And I totally agree, the sound of that model is amazing. Not to mention it looks sexy as hell!

Yeah, they also had the PD80S too for only $20 more. It has a much brighter sound, but I prefer this deeper bass sound. Both are great guitars.

one quick question. When you get a guitar "set up" what exactly does that entail? And how do I know if I need my guitar to be set up?

It means that the strings sit to far off the fretboard(or on some occasions, too close). Most new guitars need to be set up.

that really didn't explain it but...

it's when you have the action adjusted. this means that the height between the strings and the fretboard is changed. this is usually done by shaving down the bridge, adjusting the nut, or both.

"set up" basically means changing the action to a more desired height

Whenever I take my guitar in to be set up, they adjust the neck, change the strings, check the onation, and the frets, replace the strings, and check the nut. I have to ask them to adjust the bridge. I mainly have Corey at Good & Loud do it all for me. Right now, my Michael Kelly acoustic is in to be set up, but I am having them lower the action, so they are going to file down the bridge slightly.
Yes, I am in a box
