$500 to spend

Unread post by GratefulDMB » Fri Oct 01, 2004 2:27 pm

Hello, I have been playing guitar for like 8 months, and have picked it up very quickly. I have a yamaha 413 right now, but i am looking to get a new guitar very soon. I was wondering what would be good of good quality for around $500. I have been looking at some Alvarez, and am very pleased. I was originally thinking Seagull, because it's a killer deal, but their playability isnt the greatest. So i'd like some suggestions on some Alvarez guitars for around $500, thanks.

get a seagul, i know you say they arent playable, but few guitars come set up... your gonna have to get the action lowered and the truss rod tweaked with most guitar, you can do it yourself, or take it to a store, some will even set it up when you buy it... the seaguls are getter than alvarez, alvarez is good though.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

Your guitar (and most yamahas) are fairly highly regarded. You won't find anything that sounds better for less than $700+

umm, his yamaha, no offense to you, is not as great as your sayin, most new yamahas suck... an alvarez or (best case scenario) a seagul will be better.

i hate to be one of the bitchy old assholes around here, cuz i havent been here for that long but it seems every week theres a post about having between 500-700 dollars to spend ofn a guitar "what should i get?" :?:

basically the conclusion is always that seagull and michael kelly are most peoples faves. in second comes taks and alvarez, and then lower end martins/taylors.

what it comes down to man is what u like, play an assload of em and pick your fave!

Try out a Larrivee -03 series. For 500$ you might have to get a used on but at least try one out.

Go with a Takamine, EG530 or EG523.

yeah, my yamaha is alright but it's not that great. And about the Seagull's, I've played a lot of them, from the S series to the artist series, and the necks are just too wide for me to play comfortably. I think maybe i'll save up a little more or try to pull a deal on an alvarez or something. thanks.

I got my SST for $700 on Ebay, and that's not much more than you have now. Great, great guitar.

Seagul's have a pretty wide fretboard..either save up for a better one or play around until you find one that suits you
