DX1 or DXM

Unread post by DJR » Fri Jul 23, 2004 1:00 pm

pretty sure i've narrowed my search to these two martins - the DX1 and the DXM

most i'm sure will lean towards the DX1 because its a solid top, not laminate
i've played em both, liked em both, but i'm leaning DX1 - yeah its $50 more but its sold top

thoughts?

ps - sorry filmdude, no big baby for me

Can I offer the advice of saving up and waiting a little bit more until you can get an all solid guitar?

Well...if you're looking at Martins I think the cheapest all solid wood martin is the D-15 which I think runs $740...or something like that. I don't know if they have it though but they have the Limited edition D-15 with a spruce top instead of a mahogony top for the same price. I'd suggest that.

Stay away from the X series Martins. Save some more and get something all solid. Like the other Ryan said.

save your money, buy a cheap Alvarez and wait to get a better guitar. my RD20S sounds better than any $500 martin.

For right around $600 you can get a Larrivee D-03 or L-03. They are all solid wood and come with a case. I have an L-03R and it's fantastic.

since you really liked these two, and it's all your choice, i would just suggest to get the DX1. I own one and it sounds fantastic. It has that martin tone that i like, and it just sounds great. The only downside is that it has a laminate body.. the top is the only solid part of it. It's all up to you, just my 2 cents

I recommend the DX1. I think that's a great guitar for the $$$. I know a store that's running a special on DX-1 on Saturday July 31st for $369. Email carl@pittsburghguitars.com if interested. Good guy and good store- maybe they'll ship.
