Best strings for a martin

Unread post by Ryguy0097 » Sat Jul 17, 2004 4:44 pm

I recently just bought my first martin a D-16GT and I was wondering what people thought were the best strings for martins I wasnt sure if elixir's would sound alright or d"addario exps or just martin strings which I have on it now. I never expected to buy this guitar always thought I would get a taylor but once I picked it up I couldnt put it down.

I like it alot. My little brother who sn I am on has a taylor 110 which is almost what I got but I played this martin at the Guitar Center and couldnt stop playing it. I got it used for $630 with a case but it looks brand new with no dings or scratches.

A used guitar with dings and scratches doesn't mean its a bad guitar...it means it e=was a loved guitar! :D

It's cool that you like your Martin. They sound so full and deep. Elixers are good strings too, but I don't like buying them anymore. The more you play them, the coating stars coming off and I had little hairy strands hanging off. Next time try some Martin SP Bronze strings or some D'Addario bronze ones.

Ok, I have never really tried the EXP D'Addario's on my guitar. I had to put them on, because the store was low on strings and open mic was in 3 hours. EXP had the only gage I liked at the store. I put them on, and they are a rip off for that price. They sound ok, but nothing special at all. The sound is also . . . thin. It has very little fullness to them, which Dean Markley and DR's do. I just don't see why they are so popular.

hey ranting, have you ever tried elixers?

i think the reason i prefer taylors over martins is simply because of the strings they come with. (hear me out on this one) taylors come stocked with elixers and i THINK martins come with D'Addarios. well whenever i go to the guitar store to play them, the taylors always sound like they have new strings on them and they sound beautiful, while the martins sound dead and the strings feel almost rusty... so maybe i don't get the real sound out of martins.

so i would say to put Elixer Medium/light Nanowebs :)

The newer ones do, yes.

Also, guitar stores, for the most part, change the strings when the guitars get to the shop, so they are to blame for your bad experience!

I've never understood why people think Elixirs sound "beautiful"... they sound like shit to me. Oh well, to each his own :D
