12 String Guitar

Unread post by Macht » Thu Jun 24, 2004 3:27 pm

Hey

Was looking at some 12 strings and was wondering if I should get like a 400 dollar Alvarez. The nearest store is like 80 miles away and I was wondering if it's worth it buying an Alvarez or I should just keep saving for a martin

Taylor's 12s blow Martins out of the water, and you can get them in body sizes other than dread. So get a second job and start working for that 355.

I have a Cedar Takaminie 12 string. I love it, but I want to sell it and eventually get a Taylor 12 string.

Taylor 12's are really great. Alvarez are not worth the trek up to the store.

It depends on your budget.

Yea Taylors are great but for $600 you can get an alvarez that will sound pretty damn good and better than most others at that price.

I don't care how much it costs as long as it's not above 5000, so I'm going with the Taylor. Then further along the line I'm going to by my own Martin 35

I have to agree, the one thing about a Taylor 12 is that they are so bright sounding with the elixirs- I think they're better with a non-spruce top. Hence Koa and Walnut 12s are so popular, i.e. Dave's W65.

Are KOA's strictly cut-away?

Nothings strictly cut away, you can always get a non-cutaway and it will actually be cheaper but Taylor doesnt make Koa anymore except for these 30th limiteds and the koas cost pretty much the same as the 900 series which is rediculously expensive. If I were you I'd wait a couple months and see what the fall limiteds Taylor releases are gonna be. but thats just me.

For 12 strings, I ADORE Guilds. Also, at the open mic I go to on fridays, one of the guys bought a new over $2000 guild 12 string. OMG, it's so beautiful. I bet if Dave touched it, he would chuck out his Taylor 12 strings. I mean, this Guild (I loved Guild 12 strings before I heard the one he bought) it was just amazing. He let me play it, and my god, was it great. I wish everyone on here could have played it, it was amazing.
Yes, I am in a box

Taylor will still make a koa guitar to what ever specifications you want through their custom shop. I just bought a W65e similar to Dave's even though they discontinued the walnut series. Contact your local dealer

I think Dave plays Taylor and not Guild is because he likes Taylors more than Guilds.
