Easy mic solution for you novices

Unread post by IronMike778 » Tue Feb 04, 2003 10:40 am

Ok, so I had all kinds of trouble with a Shure SM57 mic bringing the sound to my computer, so after weeks of frustration I returned it and made a trip to Comp USA. I bought a $14.99 computer mic and it works surprisingly well. My setup now is simply that mic plugged into the mic jack and Cool Edit Pro which I downloaded for free. After playing around with some simple effects I was pleasantly surprised at how good the quality was.

Hope this can be of some help to those like me who just want to be able to record themselves for the sole purpose of critiquing yourself but don't want to drop all kinds of cash$$$ doing it.

Here's a couple I didwith nothing more that a computer mic. Now keep in mind, at this point I really only record myself so I can then critique it. Of these two, I think the sound quality for What You Are is better, I'm not that thrilled about how the opening of Billies sounds (quality wise).

I had that same problem, its probably the sound recorder program youre using. Get Cool Edit Pro or Sound Forge 6.0 off Kazaa, then it should sound pretty good.

My soundcard is just the basic sound card that came with the computer. I plug into the mic jack. The mic just sits on my computer desk aimed at the soundhole. I use a $14.99 Labtec mic I got at CompUSA. It's nothing spectacular, but it accomplishes what I need it to do.

I just use a cheap little computer mic for my recordings. And Cool Edit Pro v2 to edit it.

I have some covers in the Recording & Critiquing section if you want to ehar them.

I am extremely happy with the quality I got from. It can only get better once I invest in some actual equipment.

Peace,
