can you put a tailpiece on any guitar, or do they just work on certain guitars?

i'm not sure what this means. it has to be compatable. but even still, if you want to put a bigsby on a martin, you can rig it. boy, would that be weird.

do you have more specifics? is this for acoustic or electric? are we talking about a hardtail or a trapeze or do you have any links to get an idea of what you are talking about?
