action raising on its own?

so my martin has had pretty good action from when i bought it till now. i got a new amp and have been playin threw it in my basement the past 2 days. I would always store my guitar upstairs where it is around 70 degrees or so. but since the amp its been downstairs. and since than the action got incredilby high. Im not a pussy and cant handle high action but this is considerably high and i lose stamina. So i was wondering if i should lower the action, or bring it back upstairs for a while and see if it goes back to where it was? or any other ideas u guys might have. thanks much

i think, as in like 70% sure like u need to get it upstairs ASAP, cause the dampness and humidity are making the neck seperate from the body. Not like seperate seperate, but re-adjust to be not like the way u bought it.

It sounds like the neck may even be warping, I'd take it to the shop and see what they say.

ya thanks a lot guys for responding. ill take it in soon hopefully unless it starts to heal. i might sand the bridge down a tad too. well see. thanks again

This sounds like a humidity issue. get a hygrometer and monitor the relative humidity where you keep your guitar. Do not sand down the bridge until you take it in or check out the humidity issue. If it is a humidity problem and you do not address it your problems will only get worse with time.

Yeah, humidity. Definitely. Humidity can also have a dangerous effect on the guitar in ways that you can't see, including loosening the glue.

By the way, you're not a pussy if you like a low action.

hey guys its all fixed up now. I guess my neck was a bit warped due to the coldness of my basement. So the guy adjusted it and its good as new. Thanks for your help guys. Ill continue to humidify for a while yet jsut to make sure all things are good to go. thanks again

Make sure you get a hygrometer to monitor humidity. It is possible to overhumidify your guitar. I don't know the situation in your basement, but typically the relative humidity in basements tends to be higher than in the actual house. If you already know this and have a hygrometer then disregard, but if not then it would be a good investment.
