I'll never bash mahogany again.....
I'll never bash mahogany again.....
I just went to my local guitar store to pick up some strings, and out of the corner of my eye I see a really interesting guitar. I go pick it up start playing and realize that its a Martin OOO-15 (or is 000-15... either way). Needless to say, I was awestruck...It has the kind of sound I've been looking for ever since I started playing. Just has this kind of punchy and bright sound that I'm always looking for in my guitars. So to make a long story short, I went back to my house and loaded up my three month old ovation and made a trade. I never would have thought I'd be such a fan of solid mahogony guitars! Its simple looks are growing on me, although my only real grip is no body binding. I think honestly if I were ever to buy another guitar it would be another one of these but with tortise body binding, no fretboard inlay, and a polished finish. I used to think that I wanted a D28, but I dont think it would fit my playing style half as well as this thing does. And to all you D15 owners out there that always get bashed, take pride in your instrument cause no one else knows what their missing.

I don't bash any martin that is good quality. D-15 are fine. I just played guitars, and I might have pickedup an 000-15 there (they had a lot). THe D-28 was the one that melted into me, and gave me exactly what I was wanting the notes to sound. To each their own, but that was the guitar for me, but I bet the 000-15 sounds great as well (and I would say better than an ovation
, nothing against ovations but I don't think they are better than martins).
Enjoy your playing.

Enjoy your playing.

Amen brother! I had the same reaction when I got mine a couple of months ago! I must have played 15 or 20 guitars that day and I kept coming back to the 000-15. I ended up buying it over several higher priced guitars. The combination of the bright high end and the punchy lows won me over. I've hardly touched my other guitars since I got it.
The more you play it the more it grows on you!
Enjoy!!

How does the 000-15 hold up to DMB strumming songs like Tripping Billies, Crash, #41, etc.? I know the 000 series are used by a lot of fingerpickers. Not to mention the fact that it has a different shaped body then a projected dreadnaught style.
That's the guitar I've been looking at......but can't decide if I want the D-15 instead.
Let me know what ya'll think.

It has a little bit brighter upper register than the D-15, but it still has a good heavy punch to the bass strings. It just sounds very "Martin" if that makes any sense. It's very full sounding strummed or fingerpicked.
Your best bet is to play both and see which you like better. Everyones tastes are different.

I really like if for heavy strumming as well, because it seems as though the sound is quickly projected and quickly fades away. Its a very "punchy" sound if you will. To me, it seems as if the bass side doesnt drone on forever, but rather gets to the point with its sound and then fades. This isnt to say that it doesnt have loads of tone about it, but rather just a different sound than the D series.

That's got to be one of the best statements that I have read here about guitars in a long time. I think that's the key thing that most people that bash different types of guitars are missing. Really you have to find a guitar that fits you. Not every guitar is for everyone. You really have to go out and find that instrument that was made for you.m98ter wrote:I dont think it would fit my playing style half as well as this thing does.
