painting/ removing finish on my guitar.....?

Unread post by Dancing Ants » Tue May 04, 2004 1:44 pm

Ok guys. I have a question. My cousin Chase has this blue sqier strat. He asked me if it was possible to have it changed to a blonde/natural finish...he's hotroding the whole guitar...and I said, "why not just get a nice Highway 1" but he doesn't want to...anyway, is it possible to have the color changed...if so, how do they do that, etc etc?

you'd have to remove all the hardware and strip it like a normal peice of wood or furntiture and then refinish it.

it's not worth it in my book, but ask around to some guitar stores and see what they might charge.

word up.

it is possible.. but I would say it'd probably cost you $300-500 to have it done well.. there is a lot of time involved.. especially if you want to have a natural finish in the end.. if you want to put a different color finish, you can get a away with being less perfect removing the original finish since you will be putting a couple layers of paint that will hide small bits of the old finish in the grain.. and then the refinishing is a time intensive process too.. so like I said, it won't be cheap
