I realize people spout this off all the time, but if you can hold on, I would reccomend the Larrivee. I just got a D-03E, and I love the thing to death. I was in the same position as you and did quite a bit of research regarding what I was after. It came down to the fact that I really think in the price range you are looking, Larrivee makes a better guitar than Martin. This might not be true when we're talking D-28's or D-35's, but as a worthwhile investment in a solid wood guitar, I think you will be pleasently suprised at the quality of Larrivee at that price range as compared to Martin. Hope it helps, since of course we're talking personal preference in the end. Also, I'll be happy to post some sound clips, but I need to borrow some decent mic's, so no garuntee.

Thanks Nick. Yes, I'm pretty sure that at this price range the Martin name is a bigger part of the price than the quality of the guitar. I've read reviews of all kinds of guitars at Harmony Central, and it seems like Larrivee does offer extraordinarily good quality guitars for the price. I would love to hear a sound clip, for sure! :)

I also think should wait Gold. I didn't tell you before because I didn't want to sound repetitive...

For that price range, I don't think Martin is the best choice. Wait for the Larrivee...

I've waited almost an year for my D-35 and it was well worth it, compared to waste the same amount of money in a much worse guitar in Portugal.

Good luck man, and have patience... :)

Yeah, I had a feeling you thought it was a bad decision, but didn't wanna tell me so that I wouldn't feel bad about the Martin if I got it :)

I'm waiting this one out, then...summer's almost here, and even though my uncle said he wasn't sure when the next time he's coming to Norway is, I'm certain he'll be around this summer..

is it still really expensive to buy a guitar off american ebay and have it shipped to norway?

alot of sellers do international shipping...if your going to pay 1000 dollars for a D15 why not get one for 700 here and pay the 100 dollars to ship it?

Ok, latest update on this little drama of mine: looks like I'll be getting either a Larrivee LV-03E or a D03E . They look like awesome guitars, and the reviews I've seen have all been outstanding. Here are the links:

http://www.larrivee.com/flash/products/ ... /d03e.html
http://www.larrivee.com/flash/products/ ... v03re.html

However, I need some more help cause I got an e-mail from the store, where they said:
"If you decide to order this instrument, please let me know what brand and gauge of strings you would prefer, as well as action height specifications ( in 64ths of an inch if possible ) at the twelfth fret. Any set up specs you can give me will help."

I like Elixir strings, but I'm not sure what gauge I should get. And I''m clueless about action height specifications. I'll look around the net and try to find some info myself, but if any of you can help it'll make me very happy!

action height is simply measured by taking a ruler perpendicular to the fretboard at the 12th fret and reading where the strings intersect on the ruler, though i'm not positive as to whether it is measured from the bottom of the strings or the top...

I do know that Larrivee's are set up to take light strings from the factory, but that they are able to handle mediums no problem since the bracing is strong enough. I switched the light's that came on mine to mediums and was pleasently suprised at the bass and volume increase they provided. It didn't need an action adjustment either.

That's great, thanks a lot. You have a D03-E, right? How happy are you with it? I'm glad to hear it didn't need any adjustment..

I would assume they would measure to the center of the string. That';s how all woodworking and construction measuring i've seen has been done.

I strongly suggest getting Elixer Nanoweb phospher Bronze Light MEdiums, or the regular nanoweb light/mediums.

Absolutely pewrfect for me.

That D-03 is awesome.

EDIT: also, try going to a guitar shop and play guitars until you fiond one with the perfect action for you. Then pull out a good ruler, measure the action and just specify you want your action to be ___ to bottom of string, middle, or top, i'm sure the luthier can figure it out.

Thanks Alex. I actually ordered the guitar earlier today. My brother's picking it up on saturday, and my uncle's taking it to Norway on 5th of may. I can't wait! They said they could pack it in its case in a shipping carton, so it'll be fine to take on the plane. Man, I'm so excited about this, and so happy that I decided against the Martin, and wait for this one!

Btw, the D-03 without electronics costs $480 or so more in Norway than what I pay for the electronics version. Sweet deal? Oh yeah. So thanks for all your advice everyone..without it I'd probably have a low-end, but expensive Martin now!

Will do, man. I told him medium gauge Elixir strings (before you mentioned Nanoweb)...didn't specify more than that...
