The 610 is less than the 614 because of the body styles. Evidently, the 610 has either less wood to it, or is easier to make. The prices are different because the guitars are different.

hey elliot, you were talking about getting a crazy exotic wood guitar?? check these out:

All natural woods, nothing done to change the color or anything. Of course there's the gloss coating, but that's it.

d-15

Unread post by seel98 » Tue Dec 10, 2002 1:17 pm

I own a d-15 and its an excellent sounding guitar, for a light strummer and maybe someone who plays finger style or what not. However when you start to gain confidence and want to add a little flare you get some noises, especially on the dchords and barre chords up the neck. I've had it taylored to fit .12 gauge strings but this doesn't helpt to much. I would certainly advise buying a taylor. The Taylor's are wider in the neck, making it easeir to play certain chords. The action on the taylors also are a lot better making the lTaylors easier to learn with. But you certainly get your money's worth with the craftsmanship and the sound on each taylor you buy.

I also own a Martin D-15, and I love it!!! The bass tones are amazing, and the tone is rich and expressive. The action is perfect and makes the guitar perfect for learning Dave songs with long stretches and tricky strumming patterns. I paid 450$ for it and will probably not buy another guitar for a long time. I would have loved to have electronics with the guitar to avoid micing it when recording, but this is a minor gripe. I own a couple of other guitars, an Ibanez acoustic/electric and a Johnson 12-string, and they both pale in comparison to the sound of my D-15. I played a lot of different brands of guitar before I bought the D-15 and just found that the tones of Martin guitars were more suited towards my style of playing. Although, some of the Taylors were pretty cool too, they were just too expensive. Anyways, just my own two cents.....

install a pickup...and it's better to mic a guitar anyways for recording, it sounds best. but if you want a good pick up, get the L.R. Bagg's I-beam active...

dont waste your money on a pick up for the d15. it's too much of a bassy guitar. i bought the best martin / fishman pickup around ($250) and i still wont plug it in when recording or live. i even went so far as to buy a martin /fishman pre-amp (external) and it still doesnt help =(

have you heard the L.R. baggs I-beam though? it's amazing...it's a soundboard pickup and it actually sounds like the given guitar being played. It's an amazing design that just blows me away...

seriously, this thing is amazing...it's like no pickup out there...everyone talks about how great the taylors are, well, my Martin HD-35 with the i-beam sounds infinitely better than any taylor electronics system...
