How would these compare to a Martin thing gold pickup. I don't really have a clue about pickups, but the guy at the shop said they usually use the Martins. This is for my Larrivee if it makes any difference.

Powered and non-powered. The Active has a battery that allows for on board volume control.

Alright I just got one of this. I shouldn't have to drill anything on my Larrivee L-03R right?

you will unless it came pre drilled or you just want to let the chord come out the sound hole.

I have no idea where that came from, mine is certainly not pre-drilled anywhere

well its got a hole on the bottom, it just has an endpin in it, it will have to be removed and widened to accomodate a jack, but you cant fuck around with your end block

Actually, Larrivees do come pre-drilled for a 1/4" jack. There is a plug in the endpin whole; simply remove the plug, and the M1 Jack slides right in!

all decent guitars have an endpin "whole" but it is not big enough to accommodate a 1/4 inch jack or preamp. the hole must be made larger via drilling in most cases.

Image

as you can see from this picture, at the widest point an endpin is only .3" wide, most 1/4inch outs match up with a 1/2inch hole.

i.e.
The circuitry is housed in an elongated 1/4" endpin jack (1/2"-diameter endpin hole required), and a Velcro® mount battery bag is included.
1/4" stereo jack with 9/16-12 threaded exterior. Please note, this jack will not tap its own hole! Our #1518 tap should be used to properly tap 9/16-12 wood threads to accept the jack.
Switchjack™ tightens from outside the guitar, for easier installation. Accepts a standard 1/4" plug, and can be wired for a mono or stereo with simultaneous battery switching. 15/32" diameter, for 1/2" mounting hole. Instructions included.
For solidbody guitar. Accepts a standard 1/4" plug, and can be wired mono or stereo. 1/2"-diameter mounting hole, and at least 7/16" wood thickness are required for mounting. Overall length 2". Chrome.

I agree, however, I know for a fact that Larrivee's are pre-drilled to recieve a 1/4" jack; I work @ Long & McQuade music store, and I have personally installed several M1's into Larrivees. There is a small plug that fills the 1/4" whole and the enpin is screwed into that. You remove the endpin as well as the plug, and the jack for the M1 simply slides right in.
