Re: The Martin vs Taylor Thread
An OM is just a particular body shape. They are smaller than a dreadnaught with a tighter waist. They aren't necessarily better guitars just a different size. It seems that a lot of blues players play OM's or a similar shape.checkii wrote: I don't know what an OM is.
sorry, i've always been the guy who said I was too horrible for a nice guitar so I never learned about good guitars, what makes them better, and what guitars are actually good.
Here's a link to Mayers sig OM.

that was pretty cool it also told his other martin guitars. i'm assuming the one I have listened to and the pics i've seen is of him and his HD-35. I had a hunch it was that one from playing it, it sounded very similar.
What kind of a sound difference do you get out of an OM?

an om is kinda like a jumbo body. the sound you get from them tend to be fuller from them for chords. Doesn't project indivual notes as well as a dreadnought through.checkii wrote:thanks man.hcole wrote:An OM is just a particular body shape. They are smaller than a dreadnaught with a tighter waist. the 3 piece back doesnt really make a difference at all. some say it does, however most say it doesnt.
the reason why a D-35 has more bass compared to a D-28 is because it has lighter bracing. Now martin says that the lighter bracing is used to accentuate the treble, but the truth is it enhances the bass. It is possible the 3 piece back inhances this feature, but it is mostly the bracing.

I wish I could buy a kit from martin that had a 3 piece back.
better yet, you could fly to brazil, find some rosewood trees, cut them down, fly back, and get a luthier to make you a solid guitar out of it, using a nice piece of Koa in the middle of the back for your 3 piece jones, and all said and done, it would be cheaper then buying an authentic BR Martin.
or you could not and say you did.

Unless of course you count the fines that would probably be imposed for harvesting and importing a wood that is protected under CITES http://www.cites.org/index.html. Not to mention that most reputable builders probably wouldn't build with braz rosewood that wasn't cites certified.srslots81 wrote:better yet, you could fly to brazil, find some rosewood trees, cut them down, fly back, and get a luthier to make you a solid guitar out of it, using a nice piece of Koa in the middle of the back for your 3 piece jones, and all said and done, it would be cheaper then buying an authentic BR Martin.
