These are the two top Martin dealers around. They both gave me incredible quotes on a Martin D-41 Special, which was probably about $100-200 less than Eldery quoted me. Also, these guys have the best customer service, which is very hard to find now a days. I called Jon about a question about a guitar. Anyway, his line was busy or he was busy at the moment, so I hung up and didnt leave a message or anything. About 5 minutes later I get a call back from Jon, saying "Sorry I missed your call etc....) I highly recommend talking to Maury and Jon, before purchasing a guitar.

I recommend the Martin DC-16RGTE AURA
I have not purchased anything from Maury's Music but they do have videos of many of their in-stock martins in use...which is helpful

so i played a larrivee last night. i must say....real nice guitars. beatiful woods, real crisp sound, and light in weight as well. i focused mainly on the LV-03RE, here

http://www.elderly.com/new_instruments/items/LV03RE.htm

i really cant decide now, and its pissing me off. something about the martin, my fingers find their way to the frets with a little less effort, but damn, i was impressed with the Larrivees.

Honestly, there is more to a guitar than just the sound. If the martin feels better in your hands and you play it better, then I say go with it. It might be pure mental, maybe its caused by the matrtin name, but who cares. If you like it more, I say get it. You can always get better electronics later if you find that you need to upgrade down the line, but you wont want to upgrade to a different guitar.

If you definately like one over the other I say go with the it. At least you're trying out other guitars, instead of focusing on one brand.

yea i checked these guys out, and talked to the dude on the phone. real nice guy, however i think im gonna go with the martin. i dont care about the "name" but the martin really does play better for me.

even better is that guitar center said they will match Elderly's final price, so i can get it for the 1379 elderly offers, and get to see and play the one im gonna buy first. rock on.

i appreciate the feedback everyone here has offered on this thread, this is a big decision for me and all the comments have helped a lot.

one.

i do believe i am, however i have heard from a couple people, one guy at Mannys in nyc and another at guitaradoption, that some people are saying the Aura isnt worth the hype. you know is its worth the extra $120?

I play Martin and I love the tone, quality and overall feel.

My good friend Jon Short http://www.johnshort.com plays a DC-16RGTEP and he loves it, absolutely is in love with the guitar. I've heard it live and seen it up close, it's a quality axe.

BTW, Jon is playing old school resonators and touring the country on his Have Blues Will Travel Tour, check out his site if you have a minute.

You will not regret getting a Martin.

I played a D-35 years ago in a store and didn't think it was that great so I assumed it was hype over the name. Recently I gave them another chance and I would like to kick myself for not doing it sooner. I just got one and it sounds way better then any of my previous guitars, some of which cost a lot more money. Martins just have that distinct sound. I guess you love it or hate it.

here she is. Id say the only downside is the lack of gloss sides and back. but this is no slouch, and not worth the extra $400 for upgrade. ill be recording a song for the "own song" contest with it soon.
