I own a D-18 and a om-28v and have played almost every martin and taylor they sell at guitar center

To be honest, all the martins i've played are great. Even the DM is a very nice playing and sounding guitar, better to me than a 310. I guess I just prefer a deep warm tone. Of all the martins I've played from a DM to a d-41, the D-35 and D-18 were tops. The 35 for bass, and the 18 for balance and ring. My OM is a very beautifully sounding guitar, it just doesn't have the dreadnought punch to it. I play my 18 5 times as much as the OM. I will say one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played was a larivee, forget the model, but holy cow! I would easily trade the OM for it... I just happend to get the om for about $1500
