Hmm... at my Guitar Center, the D-15's are in the same room as 914ce's and HD-35's. Strange. Maybe it's a grown-up guitar!budlitebrad wrote:If you're gonna buy a Martin or Taylor, wait until you have the cash for a high end one.
There is a reason for why they keep the D41s and 714ce's in a seperate room at Guitar Center, while all the D15s have to argue with the bouncer outside.

I'm looking at purchasing a D-15. Can you explain why you say it's harder to play? Is it because the action is high? If so, approx. how much does it cost to get that lowered?everydayDMBfan_18 wrote:I prefer the d-15, but...and this is a large but...the d-15 is harder to play so I don't know if that matters to you at all

The D-15 is NOT harder to play.
The issue is that the action comes rather high from the factory many times. This is the case on many guitars, especially Martins. When you buy the D-15, they should offer a free setup, or will if you ask. They will lower the action, making it 'easier' to play.
Mine was high and uncomfortable at first, but now it's like butter. They should do it for free if you buy it from them, but if you buy it online, you are looking at around 35 + the cost of strings.

Would you consider Breedlove a low end guitar? Or did I just read that wrong... From what I've played they are pretty damn good!grock wrote:....i've just found that the low end of martin and taylor never live up to the alverez, breedlove, etc....

Check out the Larrivee -03 series.
It doesn't have any over-the-top fancy inlays or pearl work, but it is all solid wood with top-notch construction (and sound!!!). If you want to look pretty, check out the -05 series.
If you're in for a dreadnaught, try the D-03. It will blow away other guitars in the same price range. You can get one new for around $600-$700. Look at a guitar shop called E.M. Shorts, they quoted me about $730 for a brand new D-03 Rosewood! Retail on those things are something like $1,300. The standard D-03 mahogany was about $650.
Here is the link (keep in mind they don't really update their webpage, so calling or e-mailing is what you'll need to do).

if you've got broadband, i would definitely check out their factory tour, with the owner, jean larrivee. it's about 200mb, and 28 minutes long...and definitely worth it. he personally goes through the whole factory...the whole video is very impressive.
