I wipe down my strings with an old torn up white t-shirt after I get done playing. Once in a while i'll really give it a good rub and get under the strings to prevent stuff from collecting. I use polyweb elixers and they can last a long time if you remember to give them a quick wipe.

I saw a guy once , recommending that when you strings get ugly looking and ugly sounding , you could boil them , now let me tell you that sounded interesting so i had to try it , but after trying it once i didn't bother doing it again because it didn't help shit , the heat is supposed to losen up the steel again so they should become to a closer sound like new ones , sure the color became a little nicer but thats about it , i don't recommend that to anyone , but hell you can always try it if you're curious

Seems like a lot of work when you can buy new strings from 5-15$
