My first car was a Z3...this was because my dad bought it in '97 and then when his firm merged, he didn't want to put upwards of 600 miles A WEEK on it.

While I would fully buy a Mercedes SL or a CL.....those are the only two kinds of Mercedes I would ever buy. But I'm just a BMW guy. I would only buy those cars if I had "money left over". Clearly we all know that will never happen.

BUT, That being said. My dad has been buying BMW's for YEARS and it's the ONLY car that really gets me going. My dream car for when I'm younger is an M3 and then when I need a "practical sedan' for my family it's the M5. I almost talked my dad into getting the M5 but he opted for the new 745i.

Fatjack....no I wasn't drunk. That is just honestly how I think. But that was a 100% reasonable question :)

Isaac.....Your missing my point in saying I'm not makign you feel any better about your 414. Obviously that analogy isn't for everyone....Mercedes makes AMG models that are AMAZING cars(not better than BMW M series). My best friend loves Mercedes, I'm BMW all the time......it's just personal preference. You have to realize that we are comparing Taylor/Martin(Mercedes/BMW) as if they are the "norm". They are both the TOP OF THE LINE so no matter what, you still have a TOP NOTCH guitar. I would fully get a Taylor when I need an acoustic with a little better high ends than the Martin

Saleen....Yes, I know that Mercedes makes a stick shift. The original WHOLE convo has me mentioning the stick shift they make. It debuted about 3-5yrs ago in the SLK...and only SLK. Then Mercedes made it's "lower-end" model(C class) and put the stick in there to cut cost. The reason I consider them "not-making a stick" is because honestly...HAVE YOU READ ANY OF THE REVIEWS!!! It's jsut horrendous. I think Kia makes a better stick than Mercedes. It's disguisting. They should stick with the silky smooth automatics. It's not for me....but it's better than a crappy stick.

Also, Saleen, have you read anything on the new M5!!!!!!!!! Holy JESUS. The thing that just makes me so proud to be a BMW guy...is the pure genius that's put into those cars. Every Merecedes AMG has supercharged, all Audio S series have a twin-turbo, the Jaguar's are supercharged also. NOT BMW'S!!! Every M series car is just pure raw, unturbo'd POWER coming out of every last inch of the car. The new M5 is going to be a V-10 with appx 500-550HP. The magazine I read said, with the new aluminum frame(or whatever it's made out of), it could possibly break 4 seconds. Now, I doubt that...but it will be around 4.2-4.4....FOR A SEDAN!!!!!!!!!! I've seen pictures of the car and it is just unreal

I can't wait until I can drive my M3 convertible(weekend, will have M3 coupe to drive to work :) ) up to my friends house to jam on my DM3MD with him.....ha, we can dream

Yup...although I do love cars....there's a reason the BMW is "The Ultimate Driving Machine"

;) it's fine, kanter. i did get your point, as i've posted when you made this comparison in another thread. i appreciate you clarifying it for me, but i fully understand where you're coming from, and glad you came up with such an analogy between the two brands.

i was just teasing with my 414 comment. i love the damn thing and really could care less about whether or not someone else approves about it because i purchased it from the ear of my heart, for lack of a less cliched phrase.

hopefully with your analogy people'll realize that, as with the cars, Taylors and Martins are suited towards two different things. i do, at at this time, feel that Taylor's filling one of my needs right now. my next guitar purchase is definitely a Martin dread, though. :)

and...

Yeah...and honestly, if I had to get a Taylor(for the price)...your's is probably the one I would go for. Rosewood back and sides + spruce top and Expression.....with the cutaway. It'd go for that or a 314KCE or a 714(I just looooove the way the 714 looks.....best Taylor I have ever played)

I'm a pretty humble guy........ all I want is a ferrari and an M5........ no biggie. Oh and maybe a Murcielago, 68' GT500KR (Elenor), 64' 427 Cobra, Mercedes G500, Saleen S7, Porsche 911 gt2........ and a couple more ferraris (an Enzo or an F50 would be nice).

........oh....... and a ford festiva with a bored out 5.0 motor with a supercharger that could run 11s at the track too.

and I forgot the viper! Saw an 03 in frisco for the first time on my way to the 8/2 show.
