it's really not *that* beat up...just some paint scratches, and the head stock wood is kinda worn...i polished it up real nice last night...how much would it cost to put a pick up and a plug-in so that i could hook it up to an amp cost?hd28v wrote:Yes. You can have a store drop in a pickup but you are looking at some money. From the sounds of the guitar it may not be worth it if its a beater. There should be a luthier in your area. Where abouts do you live?

pick up and a plug-in?
you mean like I was talking about, or should I mind my own business?

well what I have is...
http://www.deanmarkley.com/htmlDocs/PMPlusPUpg.html
you stick it into the sound hole, and it transfers what comed out the sounhole to whatever you plug it into...if you don't want to stick a pricey one into your beater, you might want to go something along this route...then you can always use it on another guitar...hope this helps you out some

It might have to do with your sound card, and whether it accepts mono and sterio signals...hd28v wrote:I forgot about that. Good idea. I actually have a pickup like that and I tried it with Cool Edit and could not get any sound recorded. I plugged it straight into my computer with a proper attachment and nothing. Any sugestions?you can also pick up a Dean Markley pickup and just sqweeze it between the soundhole...I mean that is what they are for...that is how I get my 12 string recorded...
Or you might not have the right recording device selected in cool edit or your windows setup in general...
I plug my Tak into my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum Ex with no problems, but thats not your normal 16-bit sound card either...
Just try playing with the settings...

if you have a beater and haven't really been playing too long, why would you want to put a pick up in it? if you know very little about electronics and guitar, start playing and just learn how to play the classical. you may never even want to plug in. most times you'll find yourself just jamming unplugged with your friends.
it's only when you are good enough to play a gig that you would need a pick up and that isn't even always the case. i played at a local shop and decided not to plug my guitar in. it was a low key place so i wanted to keep it low key.
the reason the dean pickup you have isn't working is because i believe those are passive pickups that work similar to elctric pickups. being as you are playing a classical with nylon strings the pickup won't register those strings.
i should say DON"T PUT STEEL STRINGS ON THAT GUITAR. YOU WILL RUIN IT.
i just don't want to see you investing some 100's of dollars to put an unnecesarry pickup in the classical.
the classical is a different instrument than a standard six-string and should be learned as such. it is different style and really not for "plugging in".

you'd be surprised. i've seen many, many damaged classicals.Dancing Ants wrote:i put on nylon strings, as per usual. i'm not totally stupid! :lol
Anyway...it's an okay guitar..i don't like it as much as a steel string, though.
and classicals really are a different instrument than a steel string guitar. you have to approach it like that. there are some things it is better at and somethings it is worse at. like a 12 string guitar is used different than standar. bass is used different. they are all different. but do share many similarities. good luck in learning.

Thats what I was gonna say but I wasn't 100% positive and didn't feel like making a fool out of myself. Even though I already have done that by posting some covers but oh well..Stuntcheeks wrote:Your pickup isn't working b/c of the nylon strings. The pickups work using magnetics. Nylon strings, obviously, wouldn't work as they're not metal. Just mic it.
As someone stated earlier, though, don't put steel strings on, though. Too much tension on the neck.
