yeah, although I use the same fingers and hearth to play my Fender acoustic, it doesn't sound quite as good as my Larrivee. :(

Unless by "fingers and heart" you mean fine Brazillian Rosewood and spruce tops juxtaposed by fine craftsmanship and precision patented bracing, Im gonna go ahead and call you out on saying some dumb shit.

All the "fine Brazillian Rosewood and spruce tops juxtaposed by fine craftsmanship and precision patented bracing" don't guarantee a great sound unless the fingers and heart playing it can make it happen. That's all I'm saying. Having a great guitar doesn't mean the sound is good. I stand by my point, dumb as it may sound to you, buddy.

True, a good guitar cant make a shitty player good. But, in the hands of a good guitarist, a great guitar sounds great and a shitty guitar sounds... well shitty.

Sincere question: I'm curious about how your view about great-guitars-equals-great-sound applies to all the old acoustic blues players who played less than "great guitars" yet produced music with such soul that one doesn't think about the wood tones of the guitar.

Thanks,
Jack

Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

Well, a great guitarist can make a sub-par guitar sound rather good. Sometimes the wood that a guitar of isn't quite as important to the sound as the player, in fact I think it hardly ever is. But if you take a guitar with horrid intonation problems, neck bowing, and half-a-dozen buzzing frets, its going to take a lot of work to make the guitar sound good.

I guess all-in-all it comes down to partly guitar, partly player... in any situation.
