That's exciting. What builder are you going with? Or are you literally building your own?
i am building it myself for the most part, but i'm having the tricky stuff (like the top and back joining and the rossette inlay, fingerboard radiusing and slotting, side and binding bending and truss rod routing) done at a shop. I'm doing everything else myself, and im gonna be absolutely compulsive about it. I'm really looking forward to it, im just still deciding on a topwood, i cant decide between sitka spruce and cedar...
im fucking psyched though
I would be too. That, to me, is more exciting than getting a DM3MD
I'd go with cedar. I love that topwood. So warm. How much is this venture gonna cost ya?
I can't wait til I can have a guitar made to my specifications. What are your specs?
Ya, go with the cedar. I have a taylor 714 and that thing rocks. I've played a 714 with a spruce top and it's just not the same... Anyway, as arogant as your post may have sounded, congrats.
aw me no mean to be arrogant...
shane: I'm so glad you asked for the specs, ive been stewing on them for months and someone finally asked me
okay here we go:
Dreadnought with a venetian cutaway
Western Red Cedar Top
Solid Mahoghany Back and Sides (I'm gonna see if i can get a 3 piece back)
Mahoghany martin style and scale neck (dovetail not bolt on)
Ebony fretboard, bridge and peghead veneer
Koa solid wood single ring rossette
Solid wood quilted maple binding on body fretboard and peghead and quilted maple backstrip
Spruce scalloped braces
The cheapest non-plastic saddle, nut, bridge and end pins I can find
I'm still deciding between stainless steel and nickel frets, the only bad thing I can find about the stainless steel is that they are "too bright" and i dont think thats a problem.
Inverted reverse purfling
Mahoghany end and tailblocks
Gold waverly tuners with ebony tuner buttons
Double adjusting truss rod
ahem.... NO: plastic or inlays. im a simple man.
I think that about covers it...
I'm gonna try and pul it off for about 5 or 6 hundred, it would be a little cheaper, but i need some tools, namely binding routing bits and some special clamps.
