oh man, do yourself a favor and get the Martin 000C. I've had mine for about 3 months and I looooooove it.the eyes upon us wrote:hello all, im new to the forum and would like some help from you guys. i just recently quit my band (drummer for a death metal/grindcore band), but have been playing guitar off and on for the past 10 years or so, and am starting up my solo project again now that i have the free time for it (which is a cross between DMB and the acoustic side of Opeth). i currently play a blue ibanez aef30e-ms, and am looking at a new acoustic. i dont exactly have the cash for the super high end stuff, so im trying to decide between the Martin 000C-16RGTE, or a Taylor 314ce. what do you guys think? theres not a music store where i live that sells these, only the ones for like 4-5 grand, so i cant "test drive" these two. thanks for your help.

A classic bitching fest between guitarists is martin vs. taylor and like everyone else said you should really try the two beforehand and see what you think because they are two different sounds. I have played both and would lean towards the taylor more because it has a much more defined and clearer tone to it, but that martin definantly had more balls then the taylor and was louder, but ya my two cents worth would be go with the taylor. Also, check out http://217.160.250.165/forums/index.php . it is an acoustic guitar forum that deals mostly in taylors and you will be able to get that guitar much cheaper and possibly a better one like a taylro 400 series in your price range. Also check out http://www.umgf.com The Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum and check out their buy and sell section. You can deal directly with someone selling a guitar and 90% of the time the peopel on those site are real enthusiasts and they are selling a guitar they have babied and is in perfect condition. You will get a much better price on a used one in great condition from one of those sites, check them out.

ok, few more questions. i know its only 550, so it cant be as good as alot of the guitars in the 1500 range, but what do you guys think of the alvarez jumbos with the maple back and sides (spruce top)? heard alot of good things on the electronics, just not sure about the maple. also, im really intrigued by the alvarez yairi (spelling?) thats all koa, i think its the wy1k, or something like that. its simply stunning to look at, my question on that one is what the sound is like, ive never seen or heard an all koa guitar before and am wandering what the tone would be like on one of those. also, have you heard of babicz guitars? they throw a mighty good sell's pitch on the website, and ive seen alot of good reviews, just never heard of them before and was wandering if anyone on here has. as far as actually playing the guitars goes, im down to the martin 000c16gte, or the dc16gte, but im trying to expand my options on other brands and am wanting some info on the others listed above since i havent seen these in person yet. thanks

In my preference I would go with the Taylor, I was big on Martins for a long time, but unless you want to go "All Out" on a Martin, then a 1500 - 1600 Taylor is a better choice. I think the playability is smoother and tone is deeper in most cases at that price range and I think the Taylor would be good especially if your using it for alot of Studio work.
Every guitar is different even if they are the same model so I wouldn't buy anything without playing it first. Also I'm big on the Alvarez's too so I would check out some of those for the price your willing to pay for sure.

I think that is one of the best looking guitars around. the AJ60SC. wow is it gorgeous. and it must sound amazing, my AD60sc sounds phenominal for a $350 guitar. You might want to go and try some of these rout, then buy one online.the eyes upon us wrote:ok, few more questions. i know its only 550, so it cant be as good as alot of the guitars in the 1500 range, but what do you guys think of the alvarez jumbos with the maple back and sides (spruce top)? heard alot of good things on the electronics, just not sure about the maple. also, im really intrigued by the alvarez yairi (spelling?) thats all koa, i think its the wy1k, or something like that. its simply stunning to look at, my question on that one is what the sound is like, ive never seen or heard an all koa guitar before and am wandering what the tone would be like on one of those. also, have you heard of babicz guitars? they throw a mighty good sell's pitch on the website, and ive seen alot of good reviews, just never heard of them before and was wandering if anyone on here has. as far as actually playing the guitars goes, im down to the martin 000c16gte, or the dc16gte, but im trying to expand my options on other brands and am wanting some info on the others listed above since i havent seen these in person yet. thanks

i agree, very nice looking guitar. coincidentally, my money situation has lowered itself so im needing to keep it under 1000. so, im trying to decide between the aj60 and a couple of martins, mainly the d-15. would you recommend the d-15 (its solid wood construction, just no fancy stuff)? if so, whats the difference between the mahogany and the rosewood versions? (sound wise), as well as the difference in sound for the aj60, since its maple. thanks for all the help so far guys.

sweet thread. I am in the same boat as you, looking for a guitar around 1000, and have always leaned towards Martin or Taylor just because there always there and they are great. I know these boards love larrivee's and Alvarez, so they must be great too but I just can't find anywhere to play them. I am going to check out that Martin Guitar Forum and c whats going on there.
