this guitar sounds so good. the more i play it, the more i learn about it. the rich, woody bass and tingly trebles. nothing over powers anythign else, yet together, it is all overpowingly awesome in its splendor.

a guitar like this you need to embrace, and learn its subtlties. if you just pick it up and wail, sure itll sound great, but you need to harness its powers. its a cannon. the bass has its place and so do the mids and the highs, and if you put them in their place, when a song calls for it, it is truly rewarding.

this guitar lets you know when you mess up. you dont hit a note perfectly? it doesnt sound good. but you do hit it - it sounds better then you can imagine. this is the kind of guitar that makes you a better a player. and it is every one involved who is rewarded.

the runout doesnt bother me anymore, because i am so in love with its sound.

when i get around to it, ill post a recording.

Why do I feel like that's just going to lead to bad news? You have the $$$ to pay it off? If not then don't do it...DEBT SUCKS...I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE

well i have most to pay it off (about 1500) and im looking for a 28 series guitar.. mostly looking at 70's d-28s or a hd-28v. which only leaves me to pay, almost nothing for an excell 70's d-28, or around 500 for the hd-28v to leave on cc for a year with 0% apr... but yeah lets hear some clips of that new guitar slots

I hate to burst your bubble or anything, but 70's Martins are considered by most to be the 'worst' martins built. Not to say that they all suck or anything, there are always exceptions, but overall they do not sound as good. This is due to the fact that Martin started using large bridgeplates in late '69 through the 70's. The larger bridgeplate, which is located in the guitar underneath the bride hinders the movement of the top enough to cause a difference in the sound. They switched back to smaller bridgeplates sometime in the early 80's or late 70's or somwhere around there. I'm not sure if you have played a lot of older martins, maybe you like the sound of a 70's martin, but I figured I would warn you. Just make sure you play many different 70's, 80's, 90's, and new martins, and don't assume if it's older, it sounds better. This is one of the reasons 70's martin dread's arent exactly shooting through the roof in price. Most people agree that the guitars Martin is making now are their best ever.

Yeah, a few people have mentioned that to me and i've played around some and it seems fairly true. So i am probably going with a newer guitar probably a hd-28v or a d-28 marquis.

man your budget manages to just keep growing and growing. Dont knock a lower model like a regular d-28, d-35 or an HD-28 just cause of things you perceive as better like foward shifted bracing. IMO the HD-28 is a fantastic guitar for a lot less money then the others you mentioned. Clearly i am a little biased cause i just bought one, but dont knock them cause you think they are 'inferior'.

Foward Shifted bracing isnt necessarily better, but different. Martin doesnt make it on some models and not others because it is better, but because its different strokes for different folks.

good luck man, but dont break the bank on something like a marquis just because, although its a sick guitar.

Yeah, I just got a check from my university with the remainder of my scholarship money that wasn't used up this semester so my budget did increase ;p. I haven't really ruled out there regular models, I really do like them all, but overall I’ve always loved playing the hd-28v at my local shop it always sounded great to me. This new money only opened up the option of a marquis into the realm of possibilities. But, i'm not quite sure an adi top (as long as many extras) is worth the extra grand, because I really dig Sitka. I am in no rush to buy a new guitar, so I am going to shop around till I find a nice one that I really like and really stands out (like how you feel about yours). By the way how much was your hd-28 there is a nice new one here for 2,300 but I feel that's pretty high.

a little high? any reputable dealer will give you 40% off the LIST price...so, a good HD28 should go for about 1900...save the 400 on electronics and beer.

i paid 1915, and then an additional $45 to have it shipped from manolin brothers in staten island to my parents house in NJ to avoid the 8.6% NY sales tax.

youll never get better then 40% off list really, but 2300 is wayyyy to high. Sounds like a guitar center price.

You did it exactly right...I'm in upstate NY, and i do the same thing with my buddy in Massachussetts (about an hour or so away)...we buy each other guitars from out of state and then just drive them to each other.
