materials aside the reason this guitar sounds the way it does is because of superior and painstaking craftmanship...buying a kit and paying some random luthier to slap this together will not produce the equivalent of the original martin product...though it is kinda cool that those components are floating around out there

if you have the right tools and a caring touch you can build a guitar just as well as any factory... the dm3md's may be handbuilt cuz theres only like 140 of em, in which case you may not be as perfect as the luthier, but you could do it.

Honestly, there may come a day when you wake up and feel like having the same axe as Dave might not be as cool as it seems today.

Just buy a new D35. They're great guitars and have a really nice, big top.
~ And rain washed away all her tears and I smiled done away was the sum of all my fears ~

forget dave's name is even on it: the guitar kicks ass. I love 35's and the paduak in the middle of the back and on the veneer make this like a super cool hopped up 35.

Exactly, the 3 piece back is really hawt.

I would honestly never buy a guitar with someone else's sig. on it, especially Dave's since Dave is an influence for me it would only fuel the "he wants to be Dave Matthews" taunt.
