My uncle brought his $1800.00 Larivee over to my house and I played that and my Taylor 410ce Ltd side by side. It was a nice guitar but I liked mine a lot more. It could be because his wasnt a dreadnought but I still preferred mine, not to say it wasnt nice though.

taylors have a very prominent and bad low end and they cut corners like all of the other brands (except larrivee=my lover)

shop around you limiting limiter. i suggest larrivee
Does anyone else think its hypocriticle when people say "dont by brand name"...but proceed to give a brand name as a suggestion.

Just go play guitars and pick your favorite.

Of course they'll give a brand name, what else is there? Unmarked guitars?

Wouldnt it be less hypocritical if they just said "play them all and get what you like"? Reminds me of the Champion Sports commercials. "Dont except endorsements. But please, buy nothing but our clothing"

i said shop around. it was apparent from his post that he hadnt played many and wanted a taylor because hes played a few and associates the name with good guitars. i suggested my fave brand and if taylor is his then good for him. i just didnt want him to buy a taylor cuz it had taylor on the headstock

The problem is, even the 400 Taylors aren;t that good. The Taks in that range are reccomended A LOT around here, as are the Alvarez guitars.

Now, if you really want to get a taylor, the 200 series is the lowest that features solid wood, and they will start at about 800.

If you shop around, you can find some good 300 series ones in the 1000 range, and if you know EXACTLY what you want, internet may be the way to go since Taylor is really good about quality (Lifetime warranty for original owner on cracks and such).

Another option is to search for a great condition, checked-out used Taylor. A friend of mine got rid of a few of his guitars to get some cash together for his new house, and it enabled me to score a 410-LTD for $750. Now, I'm not saying that is normal, but I have known guys that have found Taylors used and in EXCELLENT to perfect condidition for WAY WAY WAY off the MAP price. Also, if you are lucky enough to find one that hadn't been registered with Taylor yet (some guys hold off on filling out warranty cards until they need repair work, if they ever do..), the "original owner" will be YOU as far as Taylor is concerned (it is really the first REGISTERED owner who gets the protection.)

I love my Taylor to death, but if you took the name off the headstock, I would still love it. The important thing is to play a lot of instruments, find one you love, adn try to find that guitar at the best available price.
