tune it DOWN to G.. i do it for a joni mitchell song

you can tune a guitar's low E up to G, however, be aware of the extreme tension and "torque" being placed on the neck. I recommend using extra light strings when doing this (as opposed to mediums, let's say). I guess this would apply to your higher end guitars, so if your doing this on your practice guitar and dont give a crap about it, by all means, jam away.

if anyone has played any goo goo dolls music, john rzenik uses several alternate tunings that are tuned to extreme highs and lows. When tuning to extreme highs, he will replace his low E with another A string. When tuning to extreme lows, he will replace his A string with another low E.
