To resurrect an old thread: anyone have any other suggestions for wah pedals that won't bite your head off with acoustic? I had a Morley which I was never really crazy about. At a certain angle of the pedal the guitar was ear bleedingly annoying. I've been looking at the Crybabys with the "Q Knob" that varies the effect/sound. Anyone have any ideas?

I'm also looking for a new volume pedal. I've been thinking of the Boss FV-500H: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=151042

I was considering the Ernie Ball VP Jr., but Marcus Eaton advised against it if you're going to gig heavily with it, and I messed with one at Guitar Center and realized that the string connected to the pedal is what makes it work, and if that string breaks...the pedal is a paperweight. The Boss looks tough. But any suggestions/feedback on either the volume or wah situation would be greatly appreciated.

I have the ernie ball, it works great. Don't worry about the string, quite a few volume pedals work that way. However if the string breaks they are hard to fix, probably would have to take it to a pro. Still they are cheap for 60 bucks.

I havent used the boss volume pedal but their other stuff is built like a tank. Dont see why this should be any different.

Interesting that marcus eaton advised against it considering its the same pedal tim uses. Usually you dont have to be very rough with a volume pedal as it requires a fair amount of touch to get it to sound good.

I think either way you go you will be happy

I use a bass crybaby wah pedal and, honestly, it's one of the best wahs I've plugged my acoustic through. I've never had trouble with feedback.

Thanks for the replys. Marcus made sure to mention that TR uses the EB model 6166 which is bigger and more durable than the VP Jr. is. He said that Tim has used his for a while, but Marcus basically wore out the VP Jr. with continued gigging with it.

The string thing wasn't the only thing that really made me shy away from the EB. I think I've decided to go with the Boss one, mainly because it has a minimum volume knob which I will definitely be able to use to switch from rhythm to lead volume pretty easily. I was looking at the Morley Little Alligator due to the minimum volume knob on it too. But I was never impressed with the taper of the Morley volume/wah I had. It seemed like it would go from totally muted about 1/2 the way of the travel of the pedal and then abruptly go to full volume. Not great for swells. Could be why Tim uses the EB now...

I'll be sure to throw up a post about the Boss volume when it gets here to let you all know how it stacks up to the Ernie Ball.

As far as wah, I think I'm going to go with the Dunlop Crybaby 95Q. The Q knob lets you change the intensity/sound of the wah, and the wah is switchless, so you just step on it to engage and step off to go to bypass. Kind of a cool concept.

I have that Morley Wah/Volume and can't complain.

It's awesome to do that nice acoustic DDTW intro with the Wah...

Yeah, I find the wah can add a lot to the mood of some songs, especially with a little delay thrown in.

Here's a link to the Wikipedia info on wah pedals. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wah-wah_pedal

And here's a site regarding the technology behind wah pedals. I hope this helps.

Actually Dave used a POD 2.0 Rackmount, not the POD Pro cause it hasnt been out that long (circa 2005 I think). I have a POD XT Live floorboard, its a pretty fun unit to play and record with, you can get some insane tones out of it and its easy to work with which I like. I would rather have stand alone effects, however buying just a distortion box, delay and a wah pedal would cost more then what I paid for my POD XT Live in this damn country. Effects, guitars and amps are a joke price wise, we Canadians get screwed up the ass royally in that sense.
