I'm sure if you slapped a Taylor headstock on the Martin you would be on it's nuts.

I also own an 000-15, and I've yet to play a guitar that I liked any more than it. Every taylor i've ever played just felt like it was little to on the "bright" side to me. I used to hate mahagony's looks as well, but the longer I play the more I want something with no flash whatsover. Let your talent speak for you, not your abalone and gloss. As a matter of fact my dream guitar is a custom 000-15 with some binding (for wear and tear purposes), and no fret inlays or rosette. I will say that I didnt really like the D-15 though. Something about it just didn't quite sound right to me. I really think that the 000 model stomps the D in all honesty. Lastly, I love how light the guitar is.......you never get tired of having it over your shoulder....although it may not hold up real well to extensive stage use. Really, its an all solid wood martin for way under a grand, which is a steal if you ask me.

A 000 has it's purpose a dreadnought has it's purpose. For the love of God stop making direct comparisons.

For the love of god stop being an ass.........This topic is about solid mahagony GUITARS......not solid mahagony DREADNOUGHTS. It was never stated that he was after a dred. I'm giving my opinion on two, as you stated, very different mahagony guitars. I didn't like the dred.....but I like the 000, and I honestly believe that something about the dred's body style combined with all mahagony doesn't allow it quite the clarity of the audutorium body. It's just something for the guy to think about when he's looking at purchasing. And I'd like to know what a Dred can do that an 000 can't, and vice versa.....what their "purpose" is....because obviously you are here because you are a fan of Dave Matthews, who has used both styles of guitar in his bang on 'em percussive style. 000's arent just for James Taylor fingerpickers......

Well I suppose you can play any style you want on any guitar but certain bodies and wood combinations lend themselves to doing particular things better than others. A dread would in most cases be head and shoulders above a 000 as far as strumming or flatpicking, which isn't to say you couldn't do those things on an 000 but the dread would probably do it better. As far as I know Dave doesn't play a 000, the Taylor x14 series and the Lakewood M-32 are grand auditorium size bodies which are different (bigger) from the traditional 000 shape. The x12 series is Taylors 000.

You're just another guy who's trying to justify their own purchase by putting down others. That my friend is being an ass.
Yes I was putting down Taylors but that was just to annoy Shane. Most guitars over a $1000 are going to sound good and I wouldn't hesistate to buy whichever one I liked no matter the shape, color, wood, etc. And as a side note: the day I start taking direct ques from Dave Matthews as to what I should and shouldn't buy I'll gladly bash my guitar against a wall. You ever take into consideration that dave doesn't need ANY bass because of Stefan and that he needs a smaller body guitar to help cut through a mix? Dave's needs are his own.

Who fucking cares. Dave could play a short scale esteban that costs 100 dollars and still sound like god. With the technology that the band has, and all the audio equipment, dave could probably punch himself in the stomach and they'd mic his farts and turn them into the satellite intro.

If you buy on impulse and you absolutely love the guitar, that's awesome. I bought some of my basses on impulse and i love them. if the name makes you proud to say "i own a taylor" then cool, i'm guilty of it too. if an inlay on the back of the guitar makes it worth that much more, awesome.

I own a Santa Cruz VA...Adirondack spruce top, mahagony back and sides. The best sounding guitar I've ever played and I also own a Taylor 914 so that says a whole lot.

The mahagony gives it great balance. Santa Cruz makes some of the best acoustic guitars.
