anyone try the cutaway martins that they have for 650ish? How much different/better/worse are they than the d-15 or any other dreads?

Martin's aren't known for their cutaways - as a general rule, Taylors have better cutaways. If you're going Martin, I would definitely recommend a Dread.

DM is a BAD influence on everyone here. Taylors are great guitars, but not a necessity. If you find a guitar you like for $600-700, get it.

cutaways just don't give as much sustain and can often be kind of bright..

If it's a dread cutaway, then it should basicly sound the same.. if you go GA or GC cutaway, they're MUCH brighter than dread cutaways

If you can, play an OOO-15.....same guitar as the D, but a different body shape. In my opinion, its one of the most underrated guitars out there.

I saw that the D-15 is about $700 in the store and some nice ones on ebay are going for about $400. Thats a bunch of money saved if i ordered it on ebay. Anyone think its a real bad idea or has anyone had any good experiences?

Martin guitars never sound the same. You're almost guaranteed to get a different sound from two otherwise identical looking d-15s. Sometimes differences are slight, sometimes its very noticeable. I wouldn't buy a martin without playing it first, personally. (And for the record, I love Martins.)

Dont buy a Tak they arent too good in my opinion. Though its all about personal preference. Go for the Martin, cheap Taylors arent very good.

A cheap Taylor is about 1,000. He said between 600 and 700. Go for the Martin.
