My new Blueridge
Well, I just got a Blueridge BR-140 today and I thought I'd let you all know what I think. I had been interested in one of these as a "beater" after hearing a lot of praise for them on some guitar forums and I've been wanting a mahogany dreadnought for a while. The sound I've been looking for is that vintage D-18 sound. After playing a lot of new D-18's the closest thing I've found that has that sound is a Bourgeois Country Boy and I'd have to get rid of my Taylor to get one of those (not gonna happen). Anyways, I figured what the hell it's only $350 (with a case) so I ordered one. I gotta tell you, I am amazed by this guitar! I expected it to be cheaply made but it really is well put together and looks great. I was worried about the ugly-ass headstock but I actually like it now that I've seen it in person. I also took off the "dalmation" pickguard and put on a plain Martin style one. But all in all I'm thrilled with this guitar. The action on it is great. It sounds VERY good. Has that nice "open" mahogany sound I was looking for. Don't get mad at me for saying this but it sounds a lot better than a lot of new Martins I've played (but still nothing beats a good vintage martin). Here are the things I don't like: the vintage style toner they use is a little too orange looking and the tuners look pretty good but are pretty cheap and have a little play in them. I'll have to see if they hold a tune and if not I might replace them. All in all though, this one hell of a "beater". I'm seriously thinking up snapping up one of their OOO's now.
